Italian President Giorgio Napolitano, along with the mayors of three cities that have been the capital of Italy (Turin, Florence and Rome), officially opened the celebration of the 150th anniversary of Italian national unity on January 7 in Reggio Emilia, with a tribute to the Italian tricolor flag. During the official ceremony, which began at 11 AM at the Romolo Valli Municipal Theater, formal greetings were paid by the Mayor of Reggio Emilia, and by the Presidents of the Province and the Region, followed by an opening address by Professor Alberto Melloni. And finally, the Head of Italian State gave his speech.
"There is no better place and no better day than Reggio Emilia on January 7 to begin the most passionate and thoroughly representative phase of our celebration of the 150th anniversary of Italian unity. It is a paragon of participation, attended by people who are both in a festive mood and aware of the importance of the day" was the tribute paid by President Napolitano to the town that had welcomed him affectionately with a display of Italian flags. Afterwards, the National Symphonic Orchestra of the RAI state broadcasting company, directed by Michele Mariotti, performed a Concerto per il Tricolore dedicated to the 214th anniversary of the first Italian tricolor (the composers of the music ranged from Verdi to Beri, and from Beethoven to Rossini). This anniversary also marked the start of celebrations for the 150th year of Italian unity, as mentioned above.
The sound system provided by Sound Corporation for the event (broadcasted live over Rai 3 Radio) consisted of 8 Peecker Sound model 4010MH speakers hung vertically at the sides of the stage (one for each ring of boxes). Also, 4 PSUT1 micro-speakers were built into the vertical wall of the stage to adequately cover the first rows of the stalls, which were playing host to highly distinguished figures. Everything was driven by the company's renowned X-Treme XTDT class D amplifiers delivering a total power of almost 10,000 watts.
"From the technical standpoint, we easily solved the logistics problems associated with installing a sound system in the third most important opera house in Italy. And I must say that the decision made by Sound Corporation technicians to go with low power speakers pointed toward each section (stalls, rings of boxes and balcony) significantly optimized the ratio of direct field to reverberated field" said Fabio Festinese, the audio technician for iTeatri, the historic foundation that manages the performance seasons at Reggio Emilia theaters, besides putting on well-known festivals such as the Festival Internazionale del Quartetto d'Archi and the Festival Aperto. "It was a significant, highly prestigious responsibility, which is why our organization handled it with the care and attention that an event of this kind requires. I'd like to thank the international organizations involved, the partners who provided us with support and our associates who helped make the event such a splendid success", remarked Andrea Gabbi, the Foundation's technical services and stage manager, immediately afterwards.
Graziano Delrio, the Mayor of Reggio Emilia, said, "In our view, it was an important celebration for remembering the republican ideals of fraternity, liberty and equality that originated in this city together with the flag more than two hundred years ago and which are still very much alive in our area". |
